Associate Laboratory Director for Environment, Safety & Health

Electrician's Mate 2nd Class - US Navy Nuclear Reactor Operator, USS Atlanta SSN-712

"The Navy was my saving grace. The lessons learned and experience gained from the Navy prepared me for working at a prestigious Laboratory, such as BNL by building on what I call disciplined thought. I learned the importance of open communication and having a questioning attitude. Believe me, when you are traveling the seas underwater at depths greater than 1000 feet there is nothing more important than communication and having a questioning attitude. I would also be remiss if I did not convey that the Navy also helped to develop my self-awareness, self-confidence as well as prepare me for what it means to be a good supervisor, through relationship management, engagement and empathy."
