Date: November 13, 2007
Location: Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL)
Center for Functional Nanomaterials, Building 735, Seminar Room
Organizers: Center for Functional Nanomaterials

Motivation & Plans

The Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) invites representatives from high-tech companies to a one-day workshop that will showcase the resources available to them at the CFN.

The participants in the workshop will have an opportunity to, among others,

  • learn in detail about the CFNs research program and its advanced instruments;
  • tour the new facilities and learn how to become a CFN external user;
  • meet the CFN staff and explore opportunities to solve nanotech problems;
  • find out about other BNL user facilities, such as the National Synchrotron Light Source;
  • discuss how the CFN and BNL can help the nanotechnology industry.

Background

The CFN is one of the five nanoscience centers recently created by the US Department of Energy for interdisciplinary research at the nanoscale, encompassing pioneering science, cutting-edge instrumentation, and advanced computation capabilities.

To fulfill its mission as a user-oriented research center, the CFN

  • maintains a vigorous research program on nanoscale materials that focuses on our nations energy-security challenges;
  • provides broad access to its advanced facilities for external users from academia and industry to pursue their own nanoscience and nanotechnology projects;
  • offers a unique environment for synergistic collaborations between external users and CFN scientists.
