Construction Camera Offers Birds-Eye View of NSLS-II Progress

There's not much to see yet, but employees and others interested in the tracking the progress of construction at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) can now do so on their computers. The NSLS-II IT group together with the Plant Engineering Division recently installed a construction camera atop the Lab's water tower that offers a round-the-clock look at the site. The camera takes a high resolution snapshot of the site every 15 minutes and will archive the data for the duration of the construction. At the end of the project, staff will be able to assemble a time-lapse movie of its progress. In the meantime, the web interface automatically constructs a time-lapse movie with the past few hundred frames, but at low resolution.

As the ring building construction begins in earnest this spring and summer, you can watch developments on the NSLS-II website.
