It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first edition of News@NSLS-II! The goal of this newsletter is to update the community on the very latest happenings at NSLS-II; it will include science highlights, interesting news and events, and upcoming deadlines. We will publish it three times a year. I hope that you find it both interesting and informative.

It is a very exciting time at NSLS-II. The accelerator is currently running at 325 mA, and we have 20 beamlines taking general user proposals as well as additional eight beamlines due to enter commissioning in the upcoming year. Further, we have another three beamlines in commissioning and eight more due to enter commissioning in the upcoming year. These are all state-of-the-art beamlines designed to take advantage of the extraordinary brightness of NSLS-II and to deliver world-leading science – and we invite you to come and use them! Visit our user guide for more details.

Our next beam time proposal deadline is September 30 and you can find a link for submission here. In our first two years of user operations, well over 1000 different users have been allocated beam time and visited NSLS-II to carry out their science. Please join them!

In this newsletter, you will find a short introduction to the unique capabilities at NSLS-II, including its world-leading spatial resolution, exquisite energy resolution and extraordinary sensitivity, and links to find out more. We also have some highlights of work that has been performed at NSLS-II. To date, researchers have studied a whole range of scientific problems, including batteries, solar cells, superconductors, interplanetary dust particles, paintings, and bacteria. Bring your problem to us and we will help you solve it!

Finally, we of course hope that you enjoy reading these short news briefs, but if you would like to unsubscribe to this mailing you may do so here. If you know of others who would like to subscribe, they can do so here.

Thank you for reading this far. I hope you enjoy the rest of the content, and that we see you at NSLS-II soon!
