As a student working at BNL I engaged in applied cyber-security research. My studies included Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA’s) as a means of hardware acceleration for fusing data. My research involved developing reusable VHDL code for a “sandbox” node, helping to create an environment for researchers to learn the details of applicable hardware and take advantage of libraries of code. Additionally I participated in the 2019 CyberForce competition as a White Team member responsible for assembly and testing of the physical infrastructures and human machine interfaces (HMI) used by the students during the competition. Right now I am working at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the Nonproliferation and National Security department.
While interning at BNL I networked with staff and engaged with scientist that were working on projects that fit my educational and professional background. I had an interest in the Nonproliferation and National Security group, who I interned for, and when a position opened I applied for it. For me interning at BNL, networking with staff and looking for scientists with projects I could support were the steps I took to acquire my current position.
