"Search for the Electric Dipole Moment of the Electron Using PbO"

Presented by David DeMille, Yale University

Tuesday, May 17, 2005, 3:30 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The speaker conducts atomic physics experiments to measure the electric dipole moment of the electron with unprecedented sensitivity. A non-vanishing dipole moment violates both parity and time-reversal symmetries. The anticipated sensitivity is deep into the range of values predicted by supersymmetric theories as well as many other models for physics beyond the standard model.
