"Surprises and Anomalies in Heavy Quarkonium Production"

Presented by Jianwei Qiu, Iowa State University

Tuesday, December 13, 2005, 3:30 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Production of heavy quarkonia is arguably one of the most fascinating subjects in strong interaction physics. It offers unique perspectives into the formation of QCD bound states. However, since the discovery of J/psi over 30-year ago, theorists still have not been able to fully
understand its production mechanism. I will review some of the recent surprises and anomalies in heavy quarkonium production, and offer some thoughts on the issues.
