"Heavy Flavor Production at HERA-B in 920 GeV Proton-Nucleus Interactions"

Presented by Hermann Kolanoski, Humboldt University Berlin (and DESNY), Germany

Tuesday, April 4, 2006, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The talk summarizes the results of HERA-B on heavy flavor production in proton-nucleus interactions using different wire targets in the halo of the HERA proton beam. The results are obtained from data taken in 2002/03; the analysis of these data is nearly finalized.

The results on charmonium production include the determination of the J/psi production cross section, differential distributions, polarisation and nuclear dependences of these distributions. The production cross section ratios psi' to J/psi and chi_c to J/psi have been determined and for the psi' to J/psi production ratio also various differential measurements have been obtained. Beauty production cross sections have been determined for inclusive production of beauty hadrons and of the Upsilon states.

The impact of these results will be discussed in the framework of QCD models and phenomenological models for nuclear dependences.
