"Electromagnetic Pion Production Experiments: Testing Spontaneous Chiral Symmetry Breaking Dynamics"

Presented by Aron Bernstein, MIT

Tuesday, March 7, 2006, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The talk will focus on recent accurate photo- and electro-pion. Production experiments in the threshold and Delta regions. It will show how the dynamical predictions of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking have been tested and generally verified. The remaining issues will be discussed along with future, more stringent tests of dynamic isospin breaking due to the up-down quark mass difference. Recent pion production experiments in the Delta region measure the long range non-spherical hadronic amplitudes which are a consequence of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. An overview of these developments will be presented.
