Physics Colloquium

"Exploring the Proton Spin"

Presented by Werner Vogelsang, BNL - Physics Department

Tuesday, April 25, 2006, 3:30 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The exploration of the inner structure of the nucleon is a classic topic of nuclear and particle physics. Over the last two decades or so, the spin of the proton and its relation to the spins and orbital angular momenta of the quark and gluon constituents of the proton have become a particularly exciting focus. The talk gives an introduction into the field, summarizing our present knowledge. It addresses the most compelling questions pertaining to the spin structure of the nucleon, and gives an overview of the theoretical progress and of the current trends and future plans in experiment.
