"Fixed Field Alternating Gradient Accelerators"

Fixed field alternating gradient accelerators (FFAGs) are an old idea for a way to build particle accelerators that has had a re-awakening of interest in recent years. I will first define what an FFAG is, and explain the physics that makes it work. FFAGs have advantages over other types of accelerators for achieving certain goals, and I will outline these advantages. I will list some of the applications that FFAGs are envisioned for and indicate why they may be advantageous for those applications. I will describe various types of FFAGs and their advantages and disadvantages.
