"New Era in UHE Astro Particle Physics"

Presented by Angela Olinto, University of Chicago and APC

Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 3:30 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The imminent completion of the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina will mark the beginning of a new era in AstroParticle Physics. Over the next few years, the long-standing mystery of the origin of the ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) will be resolved. Auger South will increase by one order of magnitude the worldwide exposure to UHECRs, which will give a precise measurement of their spectrum, an indication of their composition, and possibly the first hints of deviations from an isotropic distribution of arrival directions. We will discuss the predictions for this new era of understanding of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic ray and the possible detection of Ultra-High energy photons and neutrinos.
