"Parity-Violating Electron Scattering on Hydrogen and Helium and Strangeness in the Nucleon"

Presented by Hachemi Benaoum, Syracuse University

Monday, July 23, 2007, 3:00 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The HAPPEX collaboration has measured the parity-violating electroweak asymmetry in the elastic scattering of longitudinally-polarized electrons from Hydrogen and Helium targets at a scattering angle of 6 degrees and low Q^2. The measurement using a hydrogen target is sensistive to a linear combination G_E^s and G_M^s, the contribution to the electric and magnetic form factors of the nucleon, respectively, whereas scattering from a spinless helium target is sensitive only to G__E^s. The combination of the two measurements allows G_M^s and G_E^s to be separately determined. Final results will be presented.
