Physics Colloquium

"Cosmology from Space"

Presented by Charles Bennett, John Hopkins University

Friday, January 4, 2008, 3:00 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Space observations have led to a revolution in cosmology. From the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) to the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), space-borne experiments have brought us precise, accurate, and fundamental measurements on the physics of our universe. From my perspective as a leading member of the COBE science team and the leader of the WMAP mission, I will discuss the cosmological questions that have been answered, the mysteries that remain, and how the planned Joint Dark Energy Mission (JDEM) might contribute to our understanding of the physics of the universe.
