Physics Colloquium

"Scientific Achievements and Opportunities at Jefferson Lab"

Presented by Anthony Thomas, Jefferson Lab.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 3:30 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

In the longer term the plans to double the energy of CEBAF to 12 GeV offers an outstanding scientific opportunity to explore nucleon and nuclear structure at a deeper level than hitherto possible. We shall review the highlights of the scientific program anticipated to run in the first 5 years of operation.

While there is justifiably considerable excitement over the prospects for JLab at 12 GeV, the period between now and mid-2012 when the machine will shut-down to complete construction offers its own outstanding scientific opportunities. We shall highlight some of the most compelling physics to be carried out in the 6 GeV era as well.
