In the past years, a number of studies identified the e-cloud in the SPS as a limiting factor for above nominal bunch intensities for the LHC beams. In 2008 a set of studies has been set up to give a more precise and accurate description of the instabilities in order to estimate potential benefits of a single bunch transverse feedback system. I will report the new methods and preliminary results of the first set of measurements in the SPS carried out in June 2008.
