Thursday, November 20, 2008, 2:30 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510
We will start by describing the physics motivation of installing forward detectors in the ATLAS collaboration allowing to detect intact protons in the final states. We will detail two main physics topics: the search for the Higgs boson at low masses and for photon anomalous coupling. We will describe the technology used on the forward detectors, namely the movable beam pipes, and the 3D silicon position and the gas and quartz timing detectors.
