Preliminary results have been obtained recently on the precise measurement of the cross section for e+ e- --> pi+ pi- using the radiative return method with BaBar. Small systematic uncertainties are achieved through determinations of all the relevant efficiencies with data and by measuring the ratio of pion to muon pairs. The impact of these results on the muon g-2 prediction is discussed.
