"First Results for Electron Neutrino Appearance in MINOS"

Presented by Lisa Whitehead, Brookhaven National Laboratory

Monday, March 9, 2009, 3:00 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The MINOS long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment has obtained our first results in the search for electron neutrino appearance in a muon neutrino beam. The technique used to select electron neutrino events as well as the method for obtaining a background prediction based on near detector data will be described. I will present the results including the 90% C.L. contours in theta13, the only unknown neutrino mixing angle.
