"Observation of electroweak single top production at CDF - Joint D0/CDF Seminar"

Presented by Fabrizio Margaroli, Purdue University

Thursday, May 14, 2009, 3:00 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The top quark has been discovered at the Tevatron collider in 1995 in events where it is produced in pairs.
The standard model predicts that top quarks can be produced singly through the electroweak force, the cross section being proportional to V_tb^2; the less striking signature made much more difficult to reach the observation level to this rare process. In march 2009, the Tevatron experiments have finally achieved this important milestone. I will present in this talk the CDF analysis, the techniques we used, and finally the cross section we measure.
