"Correlated dπ+-pair production in quasi-free pp-collisions in nuclei"

Since a long time the binary pp->dπ+ process attracts much interest of both theoreticians and experimentalists and serves as a sign of the inviolable unity of nuclear and particle physics [1]. Recent observation of deuteron production in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC has created a new aspect of this subject. Calculation [2] of the elliptic flow of deuterons in these processes based on the dynamical NN->dπ concept shows some correspondance to the RHIC data and, at the same time, reveals a number of fundamental open questions concerning possible influence of the interaction of the produced deuteron with the surrounding matter on the reaction observables. Similar questions are of practical importance in studying, at much lower energies, nuclear quasi-free reaction (p,dπ+). Recent experimental and theoretical investigation of this reaction on light nuclei [3-5] has shown an equal, in principle, sensitivity of its characteristics to both parameterization of the amplitude of the basic two-body pp->dπ+ process and individual properties of the target nucleus and their role in forming particle-nucleus interactions in the initial and final state of the reaction. Our extension of the approach [4,5] to heavier nuclei confirms this conclusion. It is interesting to discuss its possible relation to the problem of deuteron production at RHIC.
