"Gone with the Wind - Screening in Strongly Coupled Plasmas"

Presented by Carlo Ewerz, GSI, Germany

Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

I describe recent results on the screening of heavy mesons and
baryons moving in hot strongly coupled plasmas. The results
are obtained using dual gravitational descriptions of the plasmas.
We consider in particular the maximal possible size of a bound
system of heavy quarks (the screening length). Starting from
N=4 super Yang-Mills theory we study how this observable
depends on deformations of the dual gravitational theory and
establish a universal meaning of the result in the N=4 theory.
