"Local Strong Parity Violation and STAR azimuthal correlation measurements"

Presented by Evan Finch, Yale University

Tuesday, January 26, 2010, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Recently, STAR has reported measurements of charged particle azimuthal correlations that are relevant to Local Parity Violation in the strong interaction through the Chiral Magnetic Effect. I will discuss these measurements; in particular, why a correlation measurement is necessary and the motivation behind the particular observable used by STAR. I will also discuss various background effects to which this observable is sensitive and what efforts are being taken to combat them.
