Particle Physics Seminar

"Falsifying models for cosmic acceleration"

Presented by Dragan Huterer, University of Michigan

Thursday, June 17, 2010, 1:30 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

How can we rule out whole classes of dark energy models, What quantities, at what redshift, and with what accuracy, should be measured in order to rule out these classes of models? And what is the most representative figure of
merit that should be used to quantify the success in constraining dark energy? I present answers to these questions using an approach that utilizes the principal component parametrization of dark energy. I show results based on existing current cosmological data, and future forecasted data from SNAP and Planck experiments.
