"Heavy Flavor from Heavy Ion Collisions: Present and Future"

Presented by Alan Dion, Iowa State University

Tuesday, June 1, 2010, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Indirect open heavy flavor measurements at RHIC have given us surprising insights into the interaction of the hot and dense medium created in heavy ion collisions. However, there is still much that we don't know about what happens to charm and bottom in the medium. In the future, we must make more direct measurements of the open heavy flavor states, and in a broader kinematic range, if we are to be confident in any conclusions about the interactions of the medium drawn from open heavy flavor. In this talk, I will give an overview of open heavy flavor measurements at RHIC, and discuss possible future measurements at RHIC and at the LHC.
