One of the primary missions of the LHC is to find the Higgs particle of the Standard Model which is assumed to generate all particle masses of the universe. The composite Higgs mechanism of Electroweak symmetry breaking would replace the elementary Higgs particle with new physics on the TeV scale providing a solution to major shortcomings of the Standard Model. Lattice gauge theories provide the necessary tools to explore this scenario.
