"A Pop-Up Book Tour of the ATLAS Particle Physics Detector"

Presented by Thomas Gadfort, BNL Regina Caputo, Stony Brook, Howard Gordon, BNL

Sunday, January 30, 2011, 3:00 pm — Borders bookstore, Stony Brook

With the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) - the newest, biggest and highest energy particle accelerator in the world - successfully smashing 3.5 trillion-electron-volt (TeV) protons to smithereens in Switzerland, Brookhaven Lab physicists Howard Gordon and Thomas Gadfort and Stony Brook physicist Regina Caputo will present a free book talk geared toward science-interested adults and young people, during which the three physicists will discuss the international effort to find the origin of mass and other new physics phenomena using the ATLAS particle detector at the LHC.

This Science Cafe book talk and discussion will take place starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 30th, at Borders bookstore in Stony Brook, across Route 347 from the Smithaven Mall.

Hosted by: Howard Gordon, U.S. ATLAS Operations Program
