"Highlights from QM2011"

Presented by Mickey Chiu, Brookhaven National Laboratory

Tuesday, July 12, 2011, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The 2011 Quark Matter conference in Annecy marked the start of another epoch in Heavy Ion physics. It was the first QM conference with results from the LHC experiments, using data from collisions of Pb+Pb ions at a sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV, a full 13.8 times higher than the maximum RHIC energy. In this talk we will present the highlights and an overview of these first heavy ion measurements from the LHC, as well as the latest results from RHIC. Both facilities produced amazingly interesting results in a number of ways, and we will discuss how these new results might impact the future of heavy ion physics.
