Center for Functional Nanomaterials Seminar Investigation of Two-Dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcogenides via Optical and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Albert Rigosi Columbia University Monday, December 21, 2015 11:00 a.m. Bldg. 735 â€" Conf. Rm. A Abstract: A general overview of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and their basic properties will be presented, as well as the charge transfer dynamics of TMDC heterostructures, as shown by absorption spectroscopy. Additionally, data and results regarding the electronic structure of these monolayers and their custom alloys measured via scanning tunneling microscopy will be presented. Coupled with the measured optical properties, the electronic band gap and exciton binding energy are extracted. Host: Matthew Sfeir
