"Probing the Epigenome to Target Breast Cancer"

Camila dos Santos, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

Thursday, January 31, 2019, 4:00 pm — Large Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

The epigenome is a multitude of chemical compounds that can modify the DNA and DNA-associated proteins in the cell, altering the genome leading to heritable mutations. Dr. dos Santos studies mechanisms underlying these epigenetic regulations of normal and malignant mammary gland development. Her group developed a model in which pregnancy can prevent the development of mammary tumors, an approach that will yield answers directly related to cancer prevention. Dr. dos Santos completed her Postdoctoral studies with Gregory Hannon at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Recipient of several awards, including the 2018 Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Award, Dr. Camila dos Santos is member of the CSHL WISE executive board.
