The BERA Asian Pacific American Association (APAA) invites all to attend the first 'virtual' Award Ceremony for the 16th annual Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship. Four awards will be presented this year in the amount of $2,000 each to graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees at Stony Brook University. The winners are Erwei Huang, Shruti Iyer, Bingchen Li, and Sha Tan.

Erwei Huang is pursuing his Ph.D. at Brookhaven Lab with Dr. Ping Liu as his advisor; Shruti Iyer is pursuing her Ph.D. with Dr. W. Richard McCombie at the McCombie Lab in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory; Bingchen Li's Ph.D. research is with Dr. Erwin London as advisor at Stony Brook University; and Sha Tan is conducting her Ph.D. research with Dr. Xiao-Qing Yang at Brookhaven Lab.

The APAA established the Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship to commemorate the life and career of Dr. Lin, who was a distinguished scientist at the Energy Sciences and Technology Department. In honor of Dr. Lin's research, remarkable achievements, and inventions, this scholarship is granted annually to a student of Asian heritage with a U.S. student visa matriculating toward a doctorate in Environmental & Energy Technology, Biology, or Chemistry at an accredited institution of higher education on Long Island, including Brooklyn and Queens, in remembrance of the manner in which Dr. Lin began his career.

The ceremony will be hosted virtually on the ZoomGov videoconferencing platform on Friday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m.
