"Career Paths Under the Microscope: Observations by a Working Mom Scientist"

Presented by Joanna Zajac, Instrumentation Division

Thursday, December 15, 2022, 3:00 pm — Videoconference / Virtual Event (see link below)

Dr. Joanna Zajac, a Staff Scientist in the Instrumentation Division at Brookhaven Lab, will discuss a common challenge junior researchers may find themselves struggling with: Should I pursue a career in academia or industry? How are they different and which one is best for me? Zajac, who spent three years in industry, will share her experience and perspective based on an article she wrote for Physics World. In this talk and in the article, Zajac addresses the main differences researchers should consider when deciding between academia and industry, such as preferred working style, management, work/family balance, and the tasks involved with the job.
