Developing new understanding of mesoscopic phenomena demands new tools that detect minute signals with nanoscale resolution. Quantum sensors turn the fragility of quantum states into a precision measurement resource, and the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond is among the most versatile, with convenient coherent control across a broad range of operating conditions. In this talk, I will present new sensing modalities of NV centers in an underexplored regime where the bias magnetic field is perpendicular to the NV symmetry axis. I will show a magnetic field angle sensing technique enabled by the electron-nuclear spin entanglement, and an approach to probe anisotropic magnetic noise in the local environment. I will then discuss our development of scanning NV electrometry, in which a single NV tip maps static and oscillating electric fields at T2-limited sensitivity with sub-100 nm resolution. Together, these advances represent important steps toward building a multimodal quantum imaging platform for probing quantum materials with high resolution and high sensitivity.
