Biology Department Seminar

"Rhizosphere Microbial Communities and Their Role in Heavy Metal Uptake by Plants"

Presented by Klaus Nusslein, University of Massachusetts, Amherst

Friday, September 8, 2006, 11:00 am — John Dunn Seminar Room, Bldg. 463

Dr. Nüsslein will present research aimed at determining how bacteria associated with aquatic plants influence plant heavy metal tolerance and accumulation. Plant-associated bacteria have a direct effect on plant growth and metal accumulation. Individual bacterial isolates influence plant root elongation and cadmium accumulation, suggesting a phytoprotective role.
