NSLS-II Seminar

"A Brazilian Experience in UHV for Synchrotron"

Presented by Marcelo Ferreira, Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory, Campinas, Brazil

Wednesday, May 2, 2007, 1:00 pm — NSLS-II Seminar Room, Bldg. 817

Overview of 15 years of operation the Brazilian synchrotron light source vacuum group, the accelerators, beam lines, materials development and some experimental stations. Since the beginning the vacuum group was in charge to project, produce and install all the vacuum devices and instrumentation. Until today, a strong position to develop in house UHV materials for specific necessities is a big effort. Ultra high vacuum (UHV) chambers, electrical and ceramic to metal components, brazing Cu-Cu and Cu-SS, TIG welds for SS, cleaning procedures, photon desorption beam line experiments, thin film deposition and plasma spray coating with alumina are the main elements.
