"Spirodela polyrhiza: A Tiny Plant with a Potentially Huge Impact as a Bioenergy Crop"

Presented by Randall Kerstetter, Waksman Institute of Microbiology, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Piscataway, NJ

Friday, December 4, 2009, 11:00 am — John Dunn Seminar Room, Bldg. 463

S. polyrhiza, the greater duckweed, is a small aquatic plant that grows rapidly on wastewater and can produce high levels of starch that can be readily converted to ethanol. I will discuss the potential of this plant as both a practical biofuels crop and a model system for understanding both biomass accumulation and storage organ development.
