"Probing QCD Jet Structure with Lambda Polarization"

Presented by Dennis Sivers, Portland Physics Institute

Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 11:00 am — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

QCD jets produced in high-energy collisions that contain Lambda hyperons can be studied with a new class of spin observables. These observables use the orientation of Lambda spin to define asymmetries in the internal, nonperturbative, dynamics for the hadronization phase of the fragmentation process. The possibility of measuring such asymmetries inproton-proton or heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies will be discussed.
