"Generalized Parton Distibutions in Ultraperipheral Production of Lepton Pairs"

Presented by Jakub Wagner, National Center for Nuclear Research, Warsaw, Poland

Friday, January 27, 2012, 2:00 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Exclusive photoproduction of dileptons, gamma N->e+e-N, is and will be measured in ultraperipheral collisions (UPC) at hadron colliders, such as the Tevatron, RHIC and the LHC. We demonstrate that the Timelike Deeply Virtual
Compton Scattering (TCS), the crossed version of the familiar Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS), opens a new way to study generalized parton distributions (GPD) in the nucleon. High energy kinematics of UPCs enables to study parton distributions at small skewedness. In particular they give the opportunity to probe gluon GPD entering the amplitude of TCS at the next to leading order in alpha_S.
