"Performance of the ATLAS Inner Detector in the high pile-up environment"

Presented by Kirill Prokofiev, NYU

Thursday, May 31, 2012, 3:00 pm — Small Seminar Room, Bldg. 510

Because of the increasing amount of the pile up interactions, current and future LHC conditions represent a significant challenge for data reconstruction and analysis. Presented in this talk is the study of performance of the ATLAS Inner Detector in a high occupancy environment of approximately 30 inelastic proton-proton interactions per bunch crossing. The behaviour of algorithms for reconstruction of tracks and primary vertices in such conditions is discussed. Methods to disentangle various pile up effects in primary vertex reconstruction are presented and the influence of the these effects on data analysis is evaluated.
