The BERA Asian Pacific American Association (APAA) invites all to attend the Award Ceremony for the 8th annual Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship. The award of $1,000 will be presented to Ms. Yixiong Yang, a graduate student at the Stony Brook University Department of Chemistry studying for a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. Ms. Yang’s study focuses on the catalysis of renewable fuels through the hydrogenation of CO2 into useful energy to assist in issues regarding the energy crisis and the greenhouse effect. The APAA established the Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship to commemorate the life and career of Dr. Lin, who was a distinguished scientist at the Energy Sciences and Technology Department. In honor of Dr. Lin’s research, remarkable achievements, and inventions, this scholarship will be granted annually to a student of Asian heritage with a student visa matriculating toward a doctoral degree at an accredited institution of higher education in Environmental & Energy Technology, Biology, or Chemistry, in remembrance of the manner in which Dr. Lin began his career. Ms. Yang will be introduced by her advisors followed by a brief overview of her current research. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 27th at 4:00 p.m., at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) 2nd floor Seminar Room, Bldg. 735. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
