Motivation
The TRacking Aerosol Convection interaction ExperRiment (TRACER) will take place in the Houston metropolitan area beginning 15 April 2021 through 15 April 2022 with an intensive operational period from July – September 2021. The campaign currently involves the deployment of the First DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Mobile Facility (AMF1), the 2nd generation C–band Scanning ARM Precipitation Radar (CSAPR2) and an additional site focused on aerosol and thermodynamic measurements.
The impacts of aerosols on convective strength and convective processes, the major focus of the TRACE campaign, remains a challenging problem that requires detailed measurements and modeling of convective clouds, aerosols and atmospheric thermodynamics.
The purpose of the TRACER workshop is to coordinate the measurement strategies within the DOE ARM program, and among inter-agency partners, and to direct the analysis and modeling efforts that will be based on the observations collected during the campaign. The outcomes of the workshop directly support the mission of the DOE Atmospheric Science Research (ASR) program and ARM Facility to use observations and modeling to address important uncertainties in the climate system with a goal towards improving climate simulations. The workshop will serve to enhance the efficiency of the scientific research and accelerate the scientific impact of the campaign.
Note: This meeting falls under Exemption E. Meetings such as Advisory Committee and Federal Advisory Committee meetings. Solicitation/Funding Opportunity Announcement Review Board meetings, peer review/objective review panel meetings, evaluation panel/board meetings, and program kick-off and review meetings (including those for grants and contracts) and is open to the public.
