Course Description

This one-week course will give participants an introduction to nonproliferation and international nuclear safeguards. The course examines the international nonproliferation regime and situates IAEA safeguards within it, to provide context for how safeguards is a key component of the regime. Lectures address topics such as the Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT), domestic and international safeguards tools, IAEA verification approaches, as well as the current challenges in the fields.

This course was previously offered by BNL as Nonproliferation, Nuclear Safeguards and Security in the 21st Century (NNSS).

Course Information

A detailed course schedule for 2024 will be available soon. To be eligible to participate, applicants must be 18 years or older as of June 24, 2024, and must be in or entering graduate school, have recently completed graduate school, or be currently employed in a relevant field.

  • Course instructors to be announced.
  • A stipend up to $1000 is available based on a demonstration of need. Stipends are only available to current students
  • There is no cost to participants to attend this course.
