Motivation

The workshop “Contractor Assurance System (CAS): Mission Ready, Opportunities Await” will be held at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and Wednesday, Oct. 30.

This in-person event is being hosted on behalf of DOE Office of Science (SC) Deputy Director for Operations Juston Fontaine.

Within DOE-SC, CAS is an approach to oversight that relies on mutual trust and transparency among three key parties — DOE, Laboratory management, and the corporate “parents” contracted to manage the Laboratories. It consists of an integrated set of processes and activities that work together to provide reasonable assurance that mission objectives are being met in a safe, compliant, and effective manner.

Who should attend

From DOE-SC and each of its 10 national laboratories, leaders and key decisions-makers in the following roles are encouraged to attend:

  • Site office managers
  • Corporate partners
  • Deputy directors for operations and their deputies
  • CAS leaders

Lab directors and delegates may also participate.

Reasons to participate

This workshop is designed to strengthen the vital partnership among the three parties.

Participants will:

  • Gain a better understanding of the history of CAS and its foundations.
  • Learn about balancing compliance and risk.
  • Share best CAS practices and challenges.
  • Identify principles to continue to build trust and transparency in different environments.
  • Shape consistent approaches for meaningful CAS values.
  • Affirm commitments to CAS for a vibrant future.
