Akhil Tayal is a beamline scientist at the Inner Shell Spectroscopy (ISS) and Quick Absorption and Scattering (QAS) beamlines at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II). He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Science from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, India, where he explored the effects of additives on the thermal stability of thin-film coatings.
With experience at leading synchrotron facilities in France, Japan, Germany, and the U.S., Akhil has made notable contributions to advancing X-ray spectroscopy and scattering techniques. His achievements include designing specialized setups for radioactive sample studies, enhancing bimetallic catalyst performance, and developing quick-EXAFS-XRD capabilities.
At NSLS-II, Akhil focuses on research in Li-ion batteries and alloy nanoparticle catalysts. He is dedicated to enhancing beamline functionality through advanced sample environments, real-time data processing tools, and in-line EXAFS analysis software to drive impactful research outcomes.
