Boris received his PhD from Stanford University where he wrote his thesis on experimental beam dynamics studies at the Stanford Linear Collider damping rings. Boris joined the NSLS at BNL in 1999, where he led the team that developed fast digital orbit feedback systems and, separately, he conducted numerous beam physics studies. Boris was appointed NSLS Accelerator Physics Section Head in 2007. Boris was involved with the NSLS-II since its inception. He contributed to the design effort, and later to the booster and storage ring commissioning. After NSLS-II commenced user operations, Boris continued as an accelerator physicist mainly focusing on beam stability and novel diagnostics development. Boris joined the EIC project within the Accelerator Physics and R&D Division in April 2020.

Expertise

Boris’ expertise spans the areas of accelerator beam dynamics, especially wakefields and collective effects, as well as beam diagnostics, beam stability, and feedback systems. His research involves both the theoretical and experimental aspects of beam physics, as well as novel diagnostics development. For the past two decades, Boris was also deeply involved in the design, commissioning, and operation of storage ring light sources, and, more recently, in some beam dynamics aspects of the electron-ion collider design.
