Yong Cai is the lead scientist of the 10-ID Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS) beamline at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II). He joined the NSLS-II project in December 2007 and has since been leading the development of the IXS beamline and the novel spectrometer for meV-resolved IXS experiments on atomic dynamics in complex materials.

Before joining NSLS-II, Yong was group leader of the Taiwan Beamlines at SPring-8 of the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSSRC) in Taiwan. He is well known for his leading role in the establishment of the Taiwan Inelastic X-ray Scattering Beamline (BL12XU) at SPring-8, widely recognized as one of the premier IXS facilities in the world with leading performance for the investigation of electronic phenomena in correlated materials and in high-pressure science.
