Along with leading Brookhaven's Instrumentation Department, Gabriella is the chair of Brookhaven's Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) working group. She spearheaded the effort to develop a QIST laboratory in the Instrumentation Department with a focus on quantum network research. Gabriella also oversees the quantum networking collaboration between Brookhaven Lab and Stony Brook University and is working with several other partners (including Yale and Columbia universities) to expand the quantum entanglement distribution network testbed.

Education

Gabriella received her Ph.D. in electronic engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy.

Professional Appointments

Gabriella first joined the Lab in 2003 as a grad student in Nonproliferation and National Security and then worked at the National Synchrotron Light Source before moving to SLAC National Laboratory in 2011. She led the Detector Department at SLAC's Linac Coherent Light Source before returning to Brookhaven in 2018. 

Research Highlights

Recognition of Gabriella's work has included the IEEE Emilio Gatti Radiation Instrumentation Technical Achievement Award, which she received in 2022 for the development of new radiation detectors that operate at the fundamental limits of performance, supporting a range of scientific discoveries and applications, including space telescopes and homeland security. She has authored more than 175 publications and holds two patents. Gabriella is also a fellow of the Oppenheimer Science & Energy Leadership Program.
