Dakota has a Ph.D. in Mathematics and over 15 years experience as a software engineer and teacher. He has experience designing and writing software for companies in media, advocacy, health care and education. Through his work, he aims to advance science in the public interest. Originally from Texas, he received his PhD in mathematics from the CUNY Graduate Center.

Dakota works across multiple interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of biology, data science, and national security. He contributes to KBase, a collaborative platform for systems biology research that integrates public and private data with scalable analysis tools; Project Alexandria, which enhances nonproliferation research through secure, organized access to shared data from diverse federal sources; SciDAC Oasis Chimbuko, which uses machine learning to perform real-time anomaly detection in high-performance computing workflows; and AI Automation in the Cloud, focused on evaluating secure cloud-based AI solutions for the IAEA. His work supports data-driven discovery, collaboration, and informed decision-making across diverse scientific domains.
