Edward A. Sierra began his career in the United States Navy. Upon completion of a rigorous two-year training program, Ed reported to the Electrical Division onboard the U.S.S. Billfish SSN-676, which was a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine. His qualifications included the following roles: submarine operations, electrical plant operator, battery charging electrician, and shutdown reactor operator. Ed was awarded Good Conduct, Battle Efficiency, and Sea Service Medals.

After leaving the Navy, Ed went to work as a field operator at the Hope Creek Nuclear Power Station in New Jersey. In 1985, he began working at BNL. He was a reactor operator at both the Brookhaven Medical Research Reactor and the High Flux Beam Reactor where he was also a reactor operations instructor. Ed presently works in the Quality Management Office as the BNL Regulatory Compliance Officer. He is the American Nuclear Society (LI Section) President Elect. Ed earned graduate degrees in Training & Learning Technology, Secondary Education, and Communication from the New York Institute of Technology, Dowling College, and Marist College, respectively.
