Luis Garcia is a Radiological Control Technician (RCT) assigned to the Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality Group at National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS II). He has worked in the Radiation Safety field since 2011 before joining Brookhaven National Lab in 2018.
Expertise
Luis provides Radiation Safety support with duties which include:
- Radiation surveys for the commissioning of beamlines, fault studies, free release of materials, radioactive material shipments, Safety System Work Permits (SSWP) close-out, and regulatory compliance
- Radiological project and experiment job coverage
- Radiological Work Permits (RWPs)
- Thermoluminescent Dosimeters (TLDs) issuance, collection, and distribution
- Personnel dose tracking
- Area TLD monitoring
- Air Sampling
- Radiation safety training and OJT
- Radioactive sample and sealed source management
- Area Radiation Monitoring (ARM) calibration and testing
- Fume hood face velocity testing
- Radiation-Generating Device (RGD) surveys
